The Cleaner Production Centre of Tanzania (CPCT) is an autonomous not-for-profit non-governmental organization which was registered under the Trustees Incorporation Ordinance Cap 374 in April 2005.The CPCT evolved from two projects: the worldwide UNIDO/UNEP National Cleaner Production Centres (NCPCs) project which started in October 1995 and the NORAD funded five year programme on Cleaner Production for Ecologically Sustainable Industrial Development in Tanzania that was implemented by the Centre under the Vice President's Office from December 1999. The funding of activities under the UNIDO/UNEP project and the NORAD programme ended December 1998 and December 2005 respectively. The Centre is currently funded through various projects and fees charged for services rendered to local and international clientele.
The Cleaner Production Centre of Tanzania is to be a leading not for profit institution that provides cleaner production, sustainable consumption; environmental management and consultancy services to small and medium scale enterprises, government and non-governmental agencies and/or institutions and United Nations and Donor agencies in a reliable, effective and efficient manner.
The mission of the Centre as an independent not-for profit institution is to promote and build national capacity for the adaptation and adoption of sustainable production and consumption in Tanzania
